If using fresh green beans, cut off the ends, then cut the beans in half
If using frozen green beans, let them defrost about 30 minutes
Heat the water in a medium pot over high heat until it's boiling
Cut the bacon into bite-sized pieces
Add the salt and green beans to the water
Boils for 5 minutes
Drain the beans and set aside
In a medium saucepan, cook the bacon pieces over medium heat for 7 minutes, stirring frequently
Don't burn the bacon, it may cook faster, depending on fat content
Drain the bacon, reserving about two tablespoons of the fat
Return the bacon, fat, and green beans to the saucepan
Saute the mixture for 2 minutes, stirring frequently
Sprinkle the pepper over the beans
Serve
