Stovetop Oatmeal

March 31, 2016 by Hectic Chef

We’re talking basic oatmeal here. But for those times when you have a bucket of 1-minute oatmeal and you can find the directions, this is the recipe for you. If you want to get creative, take a peek at Ways to Make Oatmeal More Flavorful and Fun!

This recipe requires you to actually cook…on the stove top…in a pot. This assumes that you have a clean pot, and the ability to stay awake and pay attention for a few minutes. If you can’t and fear that you might burn your breakfast, then you might want to consider the microwave method instead.

Stovetop Oatmeal

Course: Breakfast
Cuisine: American

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Quick 1-Minute Oats DO NOT try to use regular, rolled, or non-quick-cooking oats
  • 1.75 cups Water

Instructions

  • Pour water into a small pot
  • Turn the heat to medium high (6-7)
  • Wait for the water to boil (meaning it has bubbles coming frequently up to the top)
  • Pour the oats into the bowl
  • Stir while cooking for one minute
  • Remove the pot from heat
  • Pour oats into a bowl (you do have a clean bowl to eat out of, don't you?)
  • Let the oats stand for 2-3 minutes so you don't burn your tongue
